A water cleansing Mosque and a bathing sanctuary
Social Condenser: A water cleansing Mosque and a bathing sanctuary proposes an women's only Mosque, a cleansing sanctuary to either swim or to do ablution and provide emergency housing for women who have been victims from domestic violence.
Adjacent to my semester 1 proposal, ' Pop-up Parliament: A women's centre in East London,' the scheme aims to tackle the issue of the lack of refuges and support for women and children across the Borough of Tower Hamlets.
This proposal aims to withstand the issues of patriarchy and domestic violence as well as create spaces that challenge the way the traditional family would live as a feminist architectural approach.
This site is located on the River Thames leading off the jetty, creating a separate island in relation to the mainland allowing women to seek support and feel safe whilst also providing leisurely activities as across Limehouse and Whitechapel there are limited facilities for people to access.
